Cognitive Assessment:

Occupational therapy assess and treats acute/sub-acute cognitive deficits caused by traumatic brain injury, infection, tumors, stroke, dementia, or congenital conditions. Areas of focus include: orientation, attention, perception, problem solving, memory, judgement, language, reasoning, and planning. Occupational therapists set up the environment to facilitate safe daily activity via equipment, CG training, and use of technology.

Cognitive training:including dementia care, memory care, medication management

Cognitive deficits can affect the ability to carry out daily activities, routines, social interaction, and the ability to participate in leisure activities. Clients with cognitive deficits are referred to occupational therapy for functional, home safety, and driving assessments. In 2010 5.3 million people in the U.S., most over 65 years of age, had Alzheimer’s disease and 3.7 to 5.3 million had other form of dementia. In younger populations, 15 to 64 years of age the main cause of cognitive impairment is injury, from 2002 to 2006 750, 000 people annually were diagnose with a traumatic brain injury.
