Holiday gift giving can be challenging, especially when a person “has it all” when it comes to accumulated gifts!
Over the years, we have found – gifts that re-kindle fond memories are sure to please. Here are some suggestions for sharing memories and perhaps learning about family lore over the Holidays.
*Digital Photo Frames: Give new life to old family photo albums by scanning and re-creating original prints in digital format ~ this can truly bridge the age/technology gap. Choose from a variety of digital photo frames that cycle through a series of images from your loved one’s past. The digital slide show can serve as a great memory jogger and provide the foundation for shared stories.
*Life-Story, Memory Books: These don’t need to be lengthy memoirs; short stories about a particular stage in a person’s life, stories of favorite travels, pets, family history…whatever sparks their interest and brightens their heart. You can create one yourself using a nice blank journal filled with your hand written questions, or, you can purchase ready made books with leading questions from Lifebio.com
*Story Corps: “StoryCorps is an independent nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide Americans of all backgrounds and beliefs with the opportunity to record, share, and preserve the stories of our lives.” Storycorps stories are broadcast on NPR. The local StoryCorps booth is located at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco. Schedule an appointment and help your loved ones share their story with the rest of America! The San Francisco location is fully accessible. For more information: click here.
*Legacy Video :
Create a legacy video recording of your loved ones telling a story from their past. If you are not handy with a video camera to record on your own, then hiring a professional company might be just the answer. Season’s Productions is a San Francisco Bay Area video production company dedicated to helping people share their message through compelling video and animation. If you would prefer to create new memories rather than re-visit old ones, a hand-made gift certificate for a special outing might be in order. Be sure that the outing is for an event special to your loved one. Inviting one of their close friends along can make it even more special!
We hope you will spend the Holidays being Active and Well with your loved ones of every age and ability.
~ Wishing you the Very Best of the Season!
